The Washington Nationals announced in a tweet that they have signed pitcher Gio Gonzalez to a 5 year contract extension. By doing so they avoid arbitration. The deal goes through to the 2016 season.
Originally, Gonzalez was signed to a 1 year .42 million dollar deal just to get him on the team.
The cash terms of the deal are not yet known. The deal also includes options for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
