Hillen, 26, has been in the league for five years after going undrafted in 2008. He spent his first four seasons with the New York Islanders. He spent this past season with the Nashville Predators. In 230 career NHL games, Hillen has scored 10 goals, 46 assists, and 56 points. He has also logged 260 minutes in the penalty box.
This certainly adds to the depth that the Capitals have at defensemen. Not counting Tom Poti, Mike Green, or John Carlson, the Capitals have six defensemen under contract. They have added three in the past few days. Two days ago, the Capitals signed Garrett Stafford and resigned Kevin Marshall.
The Capitals have now signed four players during this free agency period. The list goes as such: RW Joey Crabb, D Garrett Stafford, D Kevin Marshall, and D Jack Hillen.
